Western Seminary is recognized as a leader in accessible seminary education. In addition to our "traditional" distance education courses, you also have other creative ways to advance your ministry training without relocating to a Western Seminary campus. Included among these are:
- In-Ministry Classes: These on campus classes are designed to reduce the class time for those working at least half-time in ministry (students who are paid staff serving in a leadership capacity at least 20 hours a week). This format involves 3 weeks of pre-course work, 2 ½ days of seat time on campus for 1 class, and 11 weeks of follow-up course work. In this format two classes are typically offered together so that students are able to attend campus for 5 days and earn 4 units. On any given semester 4 - 5 classes are offered; 2 of which at least are offered in one location (Portland, Sacramento or San Jose) and the others at a different campus.
Advantage: Much like the intensive classes this format also serves as yet another excellent way to earn residential units. Schedule
- : These regionally-based classes enable students to complete a distance education course with one or two live-extended class meetings (approximately 10 hours per 2 credits). In select areas, the professor comes to a local site to teach for a portion of the distance class. Classes typically meet for one full day and a partial second day. (Note: Hybrids do not earn residential credits. To learn more about hybrids contact the enrollment office.)
Advantage: This format has a blend of both the distance education format and direct face-to-face interaction. Schedule
